Like a lot of Windows Vista users, I couldn't wait to upgrade to Windows 7 on my home PC.
Finally, something from Microsoft that promised to make computing faster and easier.
Since I was just moving from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium I didn't even bother backing up my files.

In a previous blog post we discussed the technical details of Structured Exception Handler Overwrite Protection (SEHOP) which is an exploit mitigation feature that was first introduced in Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 RTM.
SEHOP prevents attackers from being able to use the Structured Exception Handler (SEH) overwrite exploitation technique when attempting to exploit certain types of software vulnerabilities.
SEHOP is enabled by default system-wide on Windows Server 2008 and disabled by defaul

Have you ever tried to use Windows Explorer to create a folder within or copy a file into a protected folder such a Program Files or Windows and had to deal with the confusing "File Operation" dialog box before you could complete your task.
This is one of the must confusing, poorly understood, and in my opinion poorly implemented features of User Account Control.
When running as a administrator with UAC enabled, your standard user token does not have write permissions to these protected folders.

Just back from PDC !
It was a very busy but great experience.
It is always exciting to show folks all the great stuff that is about to RTM with Visual Studio 2010, and even better to see how you are planning on using those new capabilities.

One of my favorite Windows 7 amenities is thumbnail previews, which appear when you mouse over any running program in the taskbar.
In fact, each thumbnail has a little red X in the upper-right corner, meaning you can close that program without first having to maximize it.
iTunes takes this a step further by adding player controls.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the thumbnail sports three little icons: previous track, play/pause, and next track.

In El Paso, an ordinance is on the books to keep that from happening.
The ordinance says all window bars must be quick-release - the kind people remove by flipping a lever or pushing a button from the inside.

It would make sense that planning, preparation and recruiting would be underway if Microsoft plans to keep the planned 2012 release date for general availability of a major release.
But really the most controversial news came from a Linked-in post by a Microsoft employee who claims that Windows 8 (maybe) and Windows 9 (definitely) would offer 128-bit versions of the OS.
When I read that note my first reaction was, "YES!"

For the uninitiated, Windows 7 is Microsoft's latest version of an important computer technology that allows you to put a computerised photo of a cat into a virtual bin.
What you'd reasonably expect in the ads is as many reasons they could fit into 30 seconds why you should dump the version they sold you three years ago.
Instead, they're bombarding us with "members of the public" whose ideas have apparently been incorporated into the software.
